The Russo-Ottoman War – National Models of Memory
Objectives 01.02.2012 - 30.09.2012
1. To elaborate a joint theoretical model based on already existing theories about politics, cultures, and places of memory.
2. To reconstruct the emergence of historiography and memoirs about the ROW in the affected states.
3. To research the denominational influences on the cultures of memory (Sunni and Shia Islam; Orthodoxand Armeno-Gregorian Christianity) and to relate them to the politics of memory.
4. To compare the memory traditions of the Ottoman and Russian empires to the memory policies of the emerging national states as a result of the ROW.
5. To compare the interpretations of the San Stefano and Berlin Peace Treaties, the emergence of pro-European and anti-European attitudes and expectations within the frameworks of the “Oriental Question”, the “Armenian Question”, and the “Macedonian Question”.
6. To analyze critically the role of media and propaganda devices in stamping stereotyped images
